Chocolate Dipping Treats/M&M Gift Bottle
December, 2003 - Debi Dutton

Most folks enjoy CHOCOLATE and this activity is simple yet allows a child to make something special for the holidays that tastes great. If you are looking for a last minute gift to share, give this a try. You will need melted chocolate (I use milk chocolate chocolate chips), marshmallows, graham crackers, and crème filled sandwich cookies (try holiday chocolate sandwich cookies with red crème filling).

  • Melt the chocolate. A double boiler works well but melting in a microwave is easy - 1 cup of chips for about 1 minute at medium power.
  • Assemble your dipping ingredients and spoon or dip into the chocolate. Marshmallows are easiest to dip, but the cookies are yummy.
  • Allow to cool on a rack or wax paper.
  • Arrange on a plate and cover with plastic wrap.

M&M Gift Bottle

Another quick idea is to buy a large holiday package of M&M candies (red and green). Select a gift jar and have a child count the number of candies it takes to fill the jar. Write the number on the bottom of the jar and when giving the present ask recipient to guess number of candies. If someone's not a chocolate lover, try pistachio kernels.
