Homemade gifts have a special place in our memories for both the receiver and the giver. These Little Bit of Learning Cookie Mix Jars use math, reading, writing, and eye-hand coordination. Be creative with decorating the jar or using your own favorite recipe.
"Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart jar in the order given. Jar mixes stay fresh for 6 months and those with nuts are fresh for 3 months. Wide mouth mason jars work best. Press each layer firmly with fingers or spoon so all ingredients will fit. (kids love this part……)
1 1/3 cups rolled oats ½ cup packed brown sugar ½ cup white sugar ½ cup walnuts 1 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
Mix together with wire wisk before adding to jar - 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt Put on lid.
Include card (child can type or hand write) with these instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 beaten egg, ½ cup melted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in jar mix and mix with spoon or hands. Shape into small balls and place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake 11 to 14 minutes. Remove and cool on paper or wire rack. |
