The theme for this activity is WATERMELON. For this idea – select and buy a watermelon with seeds.
For a math activity, cut a slice of watermelon and let a child estimate how many seeds are in the slice. Next, remove the seeds and count to see how close he was to the estimated number of seeds. Save the seeds.
Next, show how to paint your own slice of watermelon. Use a small or large paper plate and paint the inside red and green on the edge.
When dry, let your child cut the plate in half and write a number on the edge up to 10.
Encourage a child to say the number written on the painted watermelon slice and place the correct number of seeds on the slice.
Cut the watermelon into small cubes with a plastic knife and save to make Watermelon Lemonade.
