Framed Poem
December, 2000 - Debi Dutton

Children have a unique perspective on holidays and celebrations. This activity will encourage a child to think about holidays and encourage them to write down their thoughts. A young child can dictate thoughts to an adult for writing. A framed poem or writing by a child is special and as we end the year 2000 can be a unique treasure for years.

Pick a one word title such as Snow, Lights, Cold, Winter, Christmas, etc. If creating their own original writing is difficult most children like to fill in the blanks with their writing. The underlined words in the poem below were already written and a child finished the sentences. Here are samples for you to share:

WINTER

Winter makes me think of gloves, hats, earmuffs and mittens.

Winter makes me think of snowmen, fires and kittens.

Winter makes me think of nice lovable mothers.

But best of all,

Winter makes me think of nice warm covers!

CHRISTMAS

It smells like pine.

It tastes like cookies.

It sounds like bells.

Christmas looks like fun and it feels like happiness.
