Homemade Bath Salts and Potpourri

Here are two gifts to make ahead of time for Mom or someone special on Mother’s Day. What Mom wouldn’t like a nice, relaxing bath? This activity shows us how to make bath crystals to add to bath water.
You will need Epsom salts, which is a colorless or white salt – magnesium sulfate found in the minerals kieserite and epsomite. It is a natural ingredient that makes for soothing baths and is found in drug stores.
Measure 2 cups of Epsom salts in a glass bowl. Add a few drops of food coloring and stir until mixed. Spray some favorite perfume into the mixture and add to a glass jar or place some tablespoons of the mixture on some plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon.
When Mom adds this to her bath water, she will feel soooooo good. (The color does not leave a bath ring.)
Our second gift is potpourri.
Save flower petals from any flower arrangement and allow them to dry. When dry, allow your child to crush in a small plastic bag.
Place the flower petals in a glass jar and again add a few drops of favorite perfume. A picture can be cut and placed on the jar lid.
Both of these gifts encourage a child to share the joy of giving while measuring, pouring, and cutting.
