Sand or Beach Memory Gift
July, 2003

Some of our favorite family memories occur during the summer. This idea will show a way to package up a summer memory and share at holiday time. If beach walking and playing in the sand are a child’s idea of fun - try this activity.
Gather up some sand from the vacation trip or the cottage or purchase white sand from a garden shop.
To make a candle – use a recycled candle holder or glass container about 4 inches wide and 2 inches high.
Place a new votive candle in the center and pour sand around the edges using a funnel.
This makes a great gift for a preschooler to prepare and give to remind a family member of time together at the beach.
Make a label stating where you played in the sand (Grandma’s Cabin).
Another idea is to recycle a glass flower vase.
Add sand from your special vacation or spot to fill the vase halfway.
Add some shells and a small photograph of a beach scene at the top of the sand.
Print the place and date of trip around the top edge of vase with a permanent marker or glass paint as a reminder of the trip.
These 2 gifts are fun to make and fun to receive. Pack these away to pull out for special hand-made gifts this December.
