Crayon Making
December, 2003 - Debi Dutton

Young children often enjoy making and giving gifts to people they love. This holiday gift idea is easy, inexpensive, fun, and can be a wonderful learning experience with colors. You will need broken crayons, muffin tin, paper liners, and oven.

  • Place paper liners into the muffin sections.
  • Remove the paper wrap from the old crayons and break into pieces small enough to fit into the muffin pan.
  • Decide on the color you want for each section of the muffin pan.
  • Fill the section with various shades of the same color for solid color crayons.
  • For example, if you want purple, add blue and red pieces together in a section.
  • For multi-colored crayons add any variety of colors.
  • Place muffin pan in hot oven of 350 degrees for about 5 minutes or until crayons have melted.
  • Let cool and remove the paper making great round chunky crayons for small hands to hold without cracking.

Package the crayons with some tissue paper, add a sketch book and you have a great present for your child to share with cousins and friends that was made by them!
