Personal Mobiles
June, 2002 - Debi Dutton

Summer allows time for children to relax. This project, of making mobiles, encourages creativity while making something personal. Each mobile can have a different theme – a Father’s Day present could be a mobile using pictures of Dad with the kids, a vacation mobile of a favorite trip or outing, or a mobile of any special event or person.

  • You will need a small stick, scissors, ribbon or yarn, glue, hole punch and photographs.
  • Decide on a topic for the mobile and choose the pictures to use. The mobile shown is a friend mobile and has pictures of friends.
  • Trace and cut around the selected pictures. A glass was used for round cut-outs.
  • Glue two pictures back-to-back, punch with hole punch, and insert with various lengths of ribbon.
  • Tie the pictures to the stick and add a title if desired. We used the word “FRIEND” for our mobile.
  • Hang from a doorway or in a window.

Children can get very creative with this idea by cutting pictures in different shapes or adding special sayings or words.
