As we wait for Spring and the chance to
spend more time outdoors, the computer and internet can help the waiting.
Here are some sites to explore that can be utilized to aid children with
learning new skills. It is always best if you spend time together with a
child on the computer. As the adult you will be able to assess their skill
level and guide them to new activities.
#1 Interactive Internet
Math Games
There are wonderful software
programs to purchase to aid children with math but when you are already
paying for Internet access why not check out these current sites. This site
allows a variety of math games to choose from and allows you to play by
yourself or with a partner. They are easy to play and as an adult you can
easily choose a harder or easier level so a child can stay interested.

#2 Parents’ Choice Selected Toys
The Parents’ Choice Founder stated, “Fantastic toys don’t just captivate.
They help shape lifelong interests, lead to careers, and focus passions.” As
you buy birthday presents and gifts for children how special to know that
what you have given can “stimulate creativity” or “ignite imagination”. This
website lists the requirements for a classic toy. Try reading the
requirements before shopping for that next toy.
Or try this webpage where Parents Choice lists
the best 25 toys in 25 years. The ages covered are infant to age 8 and up.

#3 Election Year
Election 2004 is a wonderful time to reinforce
America’s unique democracy. It is not too early to begin talking and sharing
with a child our political process in electing government officials.
Teachers have found this website helpful but any adult can use this site
with a child.
The following is the site of a national
nonprofit, non partisan, organization that educates young people in voting.

Let me
know by e-mail what your favorite activity was this month. I am compiling information for a resource book
and want your input. Thanks.
